The young learners of stage 2 wrote and delivered a report on the country of their choice as their last activity for the present session.
The last unit of Stage 2, Information Texts: Report about a Subject (Unit 2.9), needed learners to write and deliver a report. The students (working in groups of four) selected a country and gathered information on the country of their choice in the form of an A4-sized booklet and presented it to their class.
The report included the following features:
Title on the cover page
Table of contents
Identification of the selected country’s location on the world map
Titles and subheadings
Relevant photographs, illustrations, or diagrams accompanied by captions
Data and details
Key facts
Glossary
The project helped the learners to write purposefully using basic language and relevant text features, group related sentences, record key information, incorporate additional information to expand ideas in nonfiction writing, and present text diversely, including flowcharts, diagrams with typed labels, and maps with handwritten captions.
