One major youth drug addiction study declares, “In India, the majority (of addicts) became hooked on drugs after friends introduced drugs to them.” The study goes on to report that an additional 35% of subjects interviewed became addicted after trying out drugs for fun and out of curiosity.”
Keeping this sensitive issue in mind, the school organized a Guest lecture on ‘Drug Abuse and Addiction in Adolescence’ on the 8th of April 2022. The session was addressed by Dr Ankineedu Prasad from Hope Foundation. Dr Prasad works exclusively in the field of addiction medicine and treatments since over a decade. He currently works as the Medical Officer and Therapy In-charge at Hope Trust, a globally renowned institute for addiction treatment, rehabilitation and research. The session was very informative and interactive and revealed that 63.6 % of patients coming in for treatment were introduced to drugs at a young age, below 15 years. This session helped them in understanding the various biological consequences of using Drugs and Alcohol on their mind, body and behaviours. At the end our students took a pledge – “We say No to drugs and Say Yes to good health”.
