As a part of PBL Inquiry -3, “How do we make back to roots? -A mantra for Gen-next”, students of Grade V visited CII Sohrabji Godrej Green Building, Hyderabad, on December 20, 2022. They got a first-hand chance to explore a Sustainable Building spread across 5 acres, out of 4 acres, full of greenery. The structure concept is derived from the ‘Pancha Bhutas’, which dictate that life exists by balancing elements and that what comes from nature must return to it. The building reduces its footprint by giving back to nature as it borrows from it. Students got the chance to see solar panels, materials, and resources made from waste, double-glazed panels for daylight, The use of ‘jalis’ is another climate control device of India. The generated wastewater (grey and black) is treated in the Root Zone Treatment System as per the standards of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) norms. It was an enriching experience for students to get such hands-on experience.
