Stage 3 learners were curious and excited about learning how various mixtures could be separated. A brainstorming session on separating mixtures of rice and bean, iron nails and sand, rock salt and salt was conducted and learners enjoyed predicting and thinking about how it all worked. But the most exciting part was a visit to the chemistry lab during the last week of December helped them understand that experiments can be conducted using scientific equipment. Observing the process of filtration (mixture of sand and water) persuaded learners to think about how this method could be used to reuse and conserve water.
