“Reading is an exercise in empathy; an exercise in walking in someone else’s shoes for a while.”
– Malorie Blackman

When teachers gather to discuss literature, they tap into their love of reading. The success of Page Turners Book Club at Suchitra Academy for teachers suggests that recreational reading is experiencing a revival, with book clubs in the foreground. This phenomenon inspired us to form the Page Turners Book Club for teachers. We recognized that effective professional development in literacy must include a sustained, personal examination of our interaction with reading. On 27th August, interweaving pleasure the book club members got together and enjoyed literature and the social nature of a book probing literacy from different angles. The book read was ‘The Last Lecture’ authored by Professor Randy Pausch and Jeffrey Zaslow and the discussion was based on literature analysing personal perspectives.
