This week the students of Grade I were introduced to the topic, ‘Farm to Plate’. An immense amount of time and hard work goes into producing breakfast, lunch and dinner. Knowing the whereabouts of what is being consumed on a daily basis teaches children the hard work and effort that goes into planting, growing and harvesting crops. Food-empathetic children have better diets, eat more fruit and vegetables and have a better understanding of food and nutrition. Children participated in the discussion with a lot of enthusiasm and became aware of the different steps involved in the inquiry question, ‘How does food reach our plate?’ It was a knowledgeable session.
