How many of us can recollect learning multiplication? Chanting and reciting multiplication tables as a class, revising the multiplication table at home with our parents and whenever you get free time. The jump from knowing how to add and subtract numbers to becoming familiar with multiplication can feel large, and complex. However, once mastered, it can become second nature to a child and is fundamental in day-to-day life. The ‘why’ and ‘how’ of teaching times tables is often neglected. Hence, at Suchitra Academy, we thrive to provide opportunities to children to explore beyond the classroom. On 24th January 2022, children of Grade II explored multiplication as repeated addition through the rajma and bangle activity. Through this activity, children understood why and how the tables were derived.
