On 18th March, the learners of Stage 8 embarked on an enriching visit to Akshaya Patra as part of their Global Perspectives challenge. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing nutritious midday meals to students in government schools, ensuring that no child is deprived of education due to food insecurity.Their visit to the state-of-the-art kitchen was an eye-opening experience. Akshaya Patra upholds stringent food quality and hygiene protocols—only purified water is used for cooking, vegetables undergo meticulous inspection, and grains are subjected to rigorous quality checks. Beyond food safety, what truly stood out was the organization’s commitment to sustainability. The entire kitchen operates on solar power, and wastewater from purification is recycled for vehicle washing, showcasing an innovative approach to resource conservation.Beyond observing the operations, students had the privilege of serving meals to children at a government school. Engaging with them, tasting the freshly prepared food, and witnessing the direct impact of Akshaya Patra’s mission made the experience deeply meaningful. This visit provided valuable insights into how sustainability and social responsibility can work together to combat hunger and support education. Witnessing the organization’s efforts firsthand left the Stage 8 learners inspired and motivated to contribute to community-driven initiatives.
