A New Era of Innovative Teaching in 2024

August 9, 2024

In the dynamic realm of education, the year 2024 heralds a new era of innovative teaching methodologies set to revolutionize how students engage with learning. As classrooms adapt to the demands of the digital age and the evolving needs of learners, educators at Suchitra Academy are guided by our vision statement – Lifelong Learners and Leaders and core values – Respect, Integrity, Self-discipline, Excellence – pioneering groundbreaking approaches that prioritize creativity, critical thinking, and personalized learning experiences.

1. Project-Based Learning (PBL):

Grounded in our core value of empowerment, Suchitra Academy fosters student ownership of learning through immersive experiences like Project-Based Learning. By addressing real-world challenges, PBL cultivates collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, empowering students to take charge of their education and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

2. Inquiry-Based Learning:

Rooted in our belief in curiosity and exploration, Suchitra Academy empowers students to drive their learning through inquiry-based approaches. By posing questions, conducting investigations, and seeking solutions to real-world problems, we nurture critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning in our students.

3. Go Game! :

Our dedication to engagement and interaction is evident in our incorporation of little games into educational activities. These simple techniques make the class engaging and focussed. By infusing lessons with game elements like rewards and challenges, we enable conceptual retention and reinforce key concepts, making learning enjoyable and impactful.

4. Flipped Classroom Model:

Remember playing ‘Teacher’ as a child – how you would adorn the attitude of a responsible adult and ‘teach’ your imaginary students? Well, little did we know the merits of this role-play. Aligned with our vision of innovation, Suchitra Academy embraces the flipped classroom model very often in everyday classrooms where the focus here shifts from teacher-led instruction to student-centered activities and discussions. The teacher assumes the role of a facilitator. This approach promotes deeper understanding, critical thinking, and active engagement as it puts learning into perspective.

5. Design Thinking:

In line with our ethos of innovation and resilience, Suchitra Academy guides students through problem-solving stages with transformative design thinking methodologies. The School’s Maker Space lab is one such creative floor of the school where creativity, imagination and problem-solving combine to create tales of wonder. By encouraging ideation, prototyping and testing of solutions, we foster innovation and equip students with the skills they need to tackle challenges with resilience.

6. Collaborative Learning Spaces:

Reflecting our commitment to collaboration and communication, Suchitra Academy provides dynamic environments like flexible classrooms and maker space lab. The sprawling Amphitheatre, the state-of-the-art Media production Studio designed to industry standards, the innumerable auditoria and utility halls, the soccer fields – we at Suchitra Academy respect the value in open spaces and the learning that occurs therein. These spaces promote peer collaboration, communication, and creativity, facilitating project-based learning and resource sharing among students.

7. The Educational philosophy of body-mind-soul balance:

There’s immense understanding of the adage – All work and no play! At Suchitra Academy, the holistic development of each student lies at the heart of the educational philosophy.  The co-curricular activities dimension aims to strike a balance between body, mind, and soul, offering students opportunities to explore their interests and talents beyond academics. The co-curricular activities – CCA aim to empower students to discover their passions, develop their skills, and showcase their talents. Visual arts and Performing arts are integrated into the curriculum from Grade IV upwards, emphasizing the importance of socio-emotional well-being and character development. Students participate in a wide range of more than 27 activities like Athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, drawing and painting, cricket, craft, classical dance, drums, embroidery, football, guitar, karate, Indian classical vocal singing, image management, gymnastics, keyboard, lawn-tennis, NCC, pottery, sculpture, skating, swimming, tabla, table-tennis, theatre, ukulele, volleyball, Western dance and yoga.

8. Inculcating the reading habit:

Everyone would agree about the value in a reading habit. Simple act, profound benefits . At the core of Suchitra Academy lies a nurturing environment where literature flourishes, fostering a deep-seated affection for books among students and educators. Through initiatives like the Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) program, students find solace from the distractions of the digital age, immersing themselves in the enchanting realms of literature every Thursday morning. Teachers, leading by example, cultivate a culture of reading and intellectual curiosity. Furthermore, the academy’s partnership with Amira Learning revolutionizes early readers engagement with English literature, offering personalized tutoring through an AI-powered platform. Recognized as one of the Best Inventions of 2021, Amira embodies the school’s dedication to educational excellence and innovation, students are encouraged to lend their voices, exchange perspectives, and infuse the library’s ambiance with vitality. A Library with a robust collection of 16,000+ books and an Annual Book Fair with it’s array of literary marvels are school traditions that create an environment conducive to inculcate the valuable habit of reading empowering students to embark on a journey of intellectual growth and exploration.

9. Mindfulness:

One of the most revered moments of any Suchitran day is the 3-minute Silence time. Every morning as each of us scramble into school with a mind full of thoughts and things to do, mental notes and lists of the to-do things, come 8.04 am, the PA system announcement brings us all to a point of pin-drop silence. These 3 minutes of calm and introspection set the course of the rest of the day. It’s a time where we summon our concentration and focus on all that we wish to achieve during the course of the day. It’s an activity that teaches everyone of us here at Suchitra Academy to be self-aware and mindful above all. And just like this activity, we here at Suchitra Aademy practise another equally powerful activity – Mindful walking. Mindful walking is an inculcated habit and is practiced by students. The key is be fully present with each step. Practised to perfection, mindful walking can help reduce stress, increase awareness, and cultivate a deeper sense of peace and connection with oneself and the world. As students walk, they are encouraged to cultivate a sense of gratitude for the simple act of walking in itself whilst appreciating the miracle of movement and the beauty of the world around us.

10. Zero food-wastage

It’s very often the watchful eyes of young children who look up to us as their role models that makes us mindful of what we do. What we teach and learn in our classrooms becomes effective only when implemented in word and spirit more so by watching us teachers walk the talk. The zero food-wastage initiative was one such incident that flowed out of the cool confines of a classroom where students ideated on value of food to food as a value and decided to practise one of the core values of Suchitra Academy – Respect. Over a period of a few months the food wastage in the dining halls came down to less than 2kgs over a total of 2000+ mouths that we fed!

11. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL):

Guided by our core focus towards holistic development and our enduring Spirit for Innovation, Suchitra Academy integrates SEL Social and Emotional Learning into the curriculum to foster academic success and personal well-being. The Suchitran UMEED is one such platform that allows students to entended themselves beyond the school gates and reach out to the external community. The entire school year is interspersed with innumerable age-competent social outreach projects from whole school footwear collection drives to educational enrichment programmes at government schools. One such project of the
school, close to it’s heart is the Lake restoration project wherein Suchitrans have transformed themselves into climate warriors. By equipping students with vital life skills such as self-awareness, social awareness, and responsible decision-making, we empower them to navigate challenges with confidence and resilience.

See the forest but tend every tree. In any institution that shapes tomorrow, innovative teaching techniques signify a paradigm shift in education. With unparalleled techniques and innovative practices, we at Suchitra Academy, we are committed to redesigning the educational landscape and inspiring students to reach their full potential.
